1963.5 Galaxy 500 R-Code
1963.5 Ford Galaxy 500 XL R-Code Hardtop. The stuff dreams are made of. Fully documented with correspondence from Ford Motor Company and lots of historic documents and photos accompany the car, including licensing from Washington and Idaho and Alberta along with a U.S. title. According to documents it was imported into Canada in 2004. Built Feb 28th, 1963, in Twin cities MN and featuring Ford's Legendary FE 427 which produced 425 horsepower using a pair of Holley 650 four-barrel carburetors. This V8 sported cross-bolted main bearing caps, reinforced steel connecting rods, 11.5:1 compression, solid valve lifters and tuned cast-iron exhaust manifolds. The Borg-Warner T10 four-speed was mandatory in this model. No power steering and no power brakes. Only 3,857 R's were produced for 1963. This machine was about performance. Curiously most R-code Galaxy's usually have no heater or radio, but both are found on this car. It's rumoured that this car was a dealer promo car from Coeur D'Alene Idaho, used for dealer promotions and Drag Racing, which may explain the lack of a shipping destination on documentation and the low milage. Documentation with the car supports the odometer reading of 39,400 miles. An absolutely stunning paint job in cream with all of the trim and chrome in fantastic condition. The paint even feels glossy to the touch. Restoration of this car was completed around the summer of 2010, and it's clearly been cherished and rarely driven since then, as it looks like it was just completed yesterday. The interior is beautiful with reproduction front and rear seat covers, after market oil, temp and amp gauges. There are no flaws in the interior at all. The 427 was completely rebuilt during restoration with new flat top pistons 0.20 over, new piston rings, reground crankshaft, new rods and main bearings a new Isky solid camshaft, lifters and bushings. Original numbers matching carbs were rebuilt and reinstalled. Pertronix distributor now in place. Generator, starter, transmission, rear differential all overhauled. All new brakes including master and slave cylinders. New ball joints, tie rod ends, bushings, sway bar and shocks. Original rad reconditioned and a 7-blade fan installed for better cooling. New heater core installed too. Stock Cast iron headers were coated and reinstalled along with new exhaust and tail pipes with Hooker aero mufflers. The sound of the car is phenomenal, and everything works just like it should. One of the earliest performance/muscle cars to come from the Big 3. Restoration of the trunk area just completed at our shop. This truly is a rare, hard to find car, not to mention the impeccable restoration makes it a one in a million machine. You won't be disappointed by this one, an absolute showstopper.
